As North Carolina sports betting legislation moves forward, major operators like FanDuel are securing partnerships in anticipation of the market launch. With March Madness approaching, many are hopeful services will be live in time for one of the biggest sports betting events of the year. However, a launch date hasn’t been formally announced as the state prioritizes careful preparation for responsible betting operations.

FanDuel recently strengthened its presence in North Carolina by teaming with the PGA Tour as an Official Betting Partner. This deepens an existing relationship as FanDuel has increased its golf offerings in recent months with new in-play betting types. According to FanDuel CMO Mike Raffensperger, “Golf interest is up on FanDuel, so we are excited to deepen our relationship with the PGA Tour.” The partnership will enable unique gaming experiences and golf-related promotions for North Carolina customers.

To gain licensure in North Carolina, operators must partner with select professional sports teams, racing venues, golf events, NASCAR or the PGA Tour itself. However, partnerships alone don’t guarantee licensure as part of the state’s broader oversight strategy. For example, despite strengthening ties with the PGA Tour, FanDuel North Carolina President Christian Genetski reinforced they still aim to meet the state’s stringent requirements.

Rival operator BetMGM also secured North Carolina market access by partnering with Charlotte Motor Speedway. This represents BetMGM’s official debut in the state and a key milestone as the ninth most populous state expands regulated betting. With over 50 years of racing history, Charlotte Motor Speedway brings iconic brand recognition and a built-in audience to propel BetMGM’s plans for the market.

When comparing FanDuel and BetMGM’s North Carolina sports betting apps, FanDuel stands out for speed and ease-of-use with competitive odds boosts and fantasy sports options. However, BetMGM offers more extensive features and betting varieties. While FanDuel may appeal to more casual bettors, BetMGM caters to advanced players seeking options alongside promotions and loyalty rewards. Both will likely vie for North Carolina’s projected $350+ million annual sports betting market.

As launch approaches, players are also awaiting operator announcements regarding North Carolina sports betting promos and incentives around site launches. For example, BetMGM offers a $1,000 risk-free first bet whereas FanDuel provides a similar $1,000 no sweat first bet promotion. Operators are likely to roll out special Fanduel North Carolina promo code packages or enhanced odds to attract early sign-ups as legal betting goes live.

With multiple renowned brands gearing up for North Carolina, competition will be fierce to capture market share when sports betting gets underway. While an official start date remains undeclared, major advances on partnerships and licensing will likely precede platforms going live in 2023.
