The third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels hit the road as healthy 9-point favorites against the struggling Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night. UNC comes in winners of 10 straight looking to move to 10-0 in ACC play, while GT has lost three straight and sits second to last in the conference.

Crisp Tar Heels Face Faltering Yellow Jackets

The Tar Heels have been crisp during their 10-game winning streak, holding every opponent under 70 points thanks to a stifling defense. That defensive efficiency ranks fourth nationally, allowing just 69 points per game on the year. They are particularly tough against the shot, ranking 21st by holding teams to 39.7% from the field and 29.2% from three.

This does not bode well for a Yellow Jackets team that has averaged only 65.7 points across three straight losses since their last win on January 4th. Their shooting splits of 42.8% from the field and 32.2% from deep both rank outside the top 250.

Scoring is no issue for UNC, who puts up 83.1 points per contest. They rank 21st overall in field goal percentage, hitting 45.6% of their shots. While only a middle of the pack three-point shooting team at 35.4%, they relentlessly attack the basket, ranking fifth by making nearly 19 free throws per game. They also crash the offensive glass effectively, pulling down 11 boards per game.

Ingram Emergence Boosts Rebounding

A big part of that rebounding surge has been the emergence of junior forward Harrison Ingram. While Armando Bacot still leads the team at nearly 10 boards per game, Ingram has upped his average to 8.6 during the winning streak. He has posted three straight double-doubles, grabbing at least 10 rebounds in six of the last eight contests.

That rebounding will be key against a Georgia Tech team that is one of the better offensive rebounding teams in the nation. Ingram can also help lock down the defensive glass, where the Jackets struggle at just 212th in the country.

Confident Pick: UNC -9

UNC has both the momentum and the matchups strongly in their favor. Riding a 10-game heater, this Tar Heels team looks far superior to previous editions that won and covered three straight over Georgia Tech. I expect them to turn this into a rout.

My best bet is North Carolina at -9, available on DraftKings North Carolina.

Three-Leg Same Game Parlay

We can build a strong three-leg same game parlay on DraftKings North Carolina by adding ACC leading scorer RJ Davis’s over 2.5 made three-pointers. During the winning streak, he has drained at least three triples in seven of 10 games and had two in the other three. He is shooting a sizzling 45.8% from deep over those 10 contests.

Combine that with Harrison Ingram’s over 9.5 rebounds, which he has surpassed in four straight and six of eight, and we have a tasty plus-money SGP.

The Final Word

UNC comes into this ACC clash with momentum and statistical advantages on their side. Georgia Tech has struggled mightily on offense during their current losing skid, which does not bode well against the nation’s fourth-best defense. The Tar Heels should dominate the battle of the boards and could notch another comfortable conference road win.

I’ll be placing my bet on North Carolina at -9 and will build a SGP around Ingram’s rebounding and Davis’s sharp shooting. Check back after the game for a recap and update on our North Carolina sports bets.
