It appears that there are seven sportsbooks that are expected to participate in online sports betting in North Carolina.

According to the announcement by the North Carolina State Lottery Commission these seven sportsbooks have applied for licenses to offer online betting in the state. The commission will continue accepting applications on a rolling basis.

Unfortunately it seems that they won’t be able to launch in time for Super Bowl betting. However industry sources and Governor Roy Cooper believe that the sportsbooks will be up and running in time for March Madness.

In total there are 11 slots available for online sportsbooks in North Carolina. The following seven sportsbooks have already applied before the December 27 deadline;

  1. Bet365
  2. BetMGM
  3. DraftKings North Carolina
  4. ESPN Bet
  5. Fanatics
  6. FanDuel
  7. Underdog Sports

One notable applicant is Underdog, which has expressed its interest in entering the North Carolina sports betting market and has even obtained a license in Ohio. However they have yet to launch their sportsbook. It’s also worth mentioning their DFS pick’em game, which was initially banned earlier this year but will now be reviewed by North Carolina regulators once the market goes live.

Additionally Caesars Sportsbook has applied as a service provider, through American Wagering Inc.

They have been granted access to North Carolina through their partnership with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, who are operating two Caesars Sportsbooks in the state.

When can we expect online North Carolina sports betting promos to begin in NC? The Sports Advisory Committee of the NC Lottery will meet on January 4. The full commission will convene on January 11.

During meetings regulators hinted that they might announce a launch date once operators submit their applications this week.

The North Carolina sports betting law will go into effect on January 8. Sportsbooks are required to be operational by June 15 2024.

Partnerships for NC sports betting apps are still being established Although the North Carolina sports betting legislation was signed in June the law was modified in September to mandate that sportsbook operators enter written agreements with sports organizations within the state.

So far four partnerships have been announced:

  • Bet365 with the Charlotte Hornets from the NBA
  • ESPNBet with Quail Hollow Club
  • Fanatics with Carolina Hurricanes from NHL
  • FanDuel with PGA Tour

Which organizations remain in North Carolina? There are seven professional sports organizations in North Carolina eligible for participation:

  • Carolina Panthers from NFL
  • Charlotte FC from MLS
  • Charlotte Motor Speedway
  • NC Courage, from NWSL
  • North Wilkesboro Speedway
  • Sedgefield Country Club
