BetMGM and DraftKings recently announced their partnerships for online sports betting in North Carolina, a significant development in the world of North Carolina sports betting apps. DraftKings has teamed up with NASCAR, while BetMGM North Carolina has partnered with Charlotte Motor Speedway. These partnerships are necessary to obtain licenses as mandated by the state’s sports betting regulations.

Both companies were among the seven applicants in North Carolina last month. Although an official launch date has not yet been announced by regulators, Governor Roy Cooper is pushing for it to coincide with March Madness betting, highlighting the potential for various North Carolina sportsbook promos.

DraftKings‘ collaboration with NASCAR allows them to expand their operations into the state. As part of this partnership, DraftKings also becomes the daily fantasy sports partner of NASCAR in both the US and Canada, gaining various benefits within the NASCAR ecosystem nationwide.

“DraftKings and NASCAR have a standing history of working together as we share a common goal of enhancing fan experiences,” stated Matt Kalish, President of DraftKings. “We are excited about this chapter in our partnership and bringing our leading mobile sportsbook to fans in North Carolina.”

Sources from within the industry suggest that NASCAR and the racetracks played a role in influencing a law change back in September that now requires these partnerships for market access, a key component of the evolving landscape of North Carolina sports betting.

BetMGM North Carolina has chosen to team up with Charlotte Motor Speedway, making it one of the two tracks in North Carolina that grants access to the sportsbook market. The partnership aims to bring sports entertainment experiences to fans while also contributing to the growth of North Carolina’s tax base, supporting colleges, and attracting major events in the future. BetMGM plans to launch its services in the quarter of this year.

In addition to BetMGM and Charlotte Motor Speedway, other companies have also announced their partnerships for sports betting in North Carolina. These include Bet365 with the Charlotte Hornets from the NBA, ESPNBet with the Quail Hollow Club, Fanatics with the Carolina Hurricanes from the NHL, and FanDuel with the PGA Tour. However, Underdog, a sports betting applicant, is yet to disclose its partner. Caesars currently has access to the state of North Carolina through its established partnership with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. As for partnerships, there are five professional sports organizations that a sportsbook can collaborate with for market access in North Carolina; the Carolina Panthers (NFL), Charlotte FC (MLS), NC Courage (NWSL), North Wilkesboro Speedway, and Sedgefield Country Club.
